What is Odoo?
Odoo is a suite of web based open source business apps. The main Odoo Apps include an Open Source CRM, Website Builder, eCommerce, Warehouse Management, Project Management, Billing & Accounting, Point of Sale, Human Resources, Marketing, Manufacturing. Installation
Log into the Windows device
Download Odoo Download
Download Python Download
Download PostgreSQL Download
Download Visual Studio Build Tools Download
Run the downloaded PostgreSQL installer, accepting all the defaults
When prompted, enter and confirm a superuser password
Run the downloaded Python installer, making sure to check the option to add Python to the path
Run the downloaded VS Build Tools installer
Select Individual components from the top left > Filter the list to C++ x64/x86 build tools > Check the box next to the option for x64/x86 build tools (Latest)
Filter the list to Windows SDK > Check the box next to the option for the latest Windows SDK > Click Install at the bottom right
Once the installation completes close VS Build Tools installer
Extract the downloaded Odoo .zip archive
Rename the extracted folder to Odoo
Cut the Odoo folder to a location it can safely run from, C:\Program Files\Odoo in this example
Navigate into the Odoo folder > Right click in the white space > New > Text Document
Name the new file odoo.conf then edit it in a text editor
Paste the following configuration into odoo.conf

db_user = odoo_rw
db_password = 0dooDB_rw$
db_name = odoo
db_host = localhost
Save the changes to odoo.conf
Back in the Odoo folder, hold the SHIFT key and right click in the white space > Open PowerShell window here...
Run the following commands in PowerShell
# connect to postgres &'C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\16\bin\psql.exe' -U postgres # enter the postgres seperuser password set during installation # create odoo database user create user odoo_rw with password '0dooDB_rw$'; # create odoo database create database odoo with encoding='UTF8' template='template0' owner='odoo_rw'; # close postgresql connection exit # prepare and activate the virtual environment python -m venv .\odoo-venv .\odoo-venv\Scripts\activate # install wheel pip3 install wheel # install setuptools pip install --upgrade setuptools # install odoo pip install -r requirements.txt # run odoo python .\odoo-bin --config .\odoo.conf -i base
Open a web browser and navigate to http://DNSorIP:8069
Login with the username admin and password admin
Click the user icon at the top right corner of the screen > Preferences
Update the Email and Email Signature > Click Save
Click the Account Security tab > Click the Change Password button
Enter admin as the current password > Click Confirm Password
Enter and confirm a new password > Click Change Password
Login using the updated email address and password
Welcome to Odoo
Run Odoo on System Startup (Optional, but recommended)
Press CTRL + C to kill the running Odoo process
Open a text editor and paste the following
:: Start Odoo server
cd /D "%~dp0"
start "odoo" /b python .\odoo-bin --config .\odoo.conf
Save the file as odoo.bat in the Odoo directory, C:\Program Files\Odoo in this example
Click on the Start Button > Type task > Launch Task Scheduler
Right click the Task Scheduler Library folder in the left pane > Create Basic Task...
Set the name to Odoo and optionally set a Description > Click Next
For the Trigger, select When the computer starts > Click Next
For the Action, select Start a program > Click Next
Complete the form fields as follows:
Program/script: "%ProgramFiles%\Odoo\odoo.bat"
Add arguments:
Start in: "%ProgramFiles%\Odoo"
Click Next
Check the Open the Properties dialog checkbox > Click Finish
In the Properties dialog, click the Change User or Group... button
Type System in the Object name field > Click OK
Check the Run with highest privileges box
Click OK to create the scheduled task
Right click the Odoo task > Run
Refresh the open web browser to verify Odoo is now running from the scheduled task
