The latest stable release of Ubuntu, Ubuntu 21.04, code named Hirsute Hippo is set for official release on April 22, 2021. If you want to try it before the release date, you can grab a daily build image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Installing Ubuntu 21.04 Desktop on VirtualBox<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Download Ubuntu 21.04 ISO Image<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For testing purposes, Ubuntu 21.04 daily build images are now available for downloads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, you first need to obtain the image. We will be installing the Desktop version of Ubuntu 21.04 in this guide and thus, grab an ISO file from\u00a0<a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" class=\"rank-math-link\" href=\"https:\/\/cdimage.ubuntu.com\/daily-live\/current\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ubuntu 21.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) Daily Builds page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can simply get the ISO link and pull it down using <code><strong>wget<\/strong><\/code> command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><code>wget http:\/\/cdimage.ubuntu.com\/daily-live\/current\/hirsute-desktop-amd64.iso -P ~\/Downloads<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Running Ubuntu 21.04 Desktop on VirtualBox<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create New Virtual Machine<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have the Focal Fossa ISO file in place, launch VirtualBox and create a new Virtual Machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can simply press Ctrl+N to launch new virtual machine creation wizard.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"671\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/create-new_machine.png\" alt=\"Install Ubuntu 21.04 Desktop on VirtualBox\" class=\"wp-image-8416\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Assign the virtual Machine a memory of at least 1024 MB.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"609\" height=\"382\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/memory_.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8413\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Create a virtual hard disk for the virtual machine<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"606\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/hard_disk.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8412\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Choose the type of virtual hard disk to create. In this demo, we choose the default VDI.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"590\" height=\"438\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/hard_disk-type.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8414\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Next, choose how the disk should be allocated. Dynamic allocation is selected in this demo.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"589\" height=\"437\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/disk_allocation.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8415\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Set the size and location of the disk image.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"475\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/disk-location-n-size.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8418\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Click create to create the Virtual Machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attach Installation ISO File<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the virtual machine is created, select it and press <strong>Ctrl+s<\/strong> to launch the VM settings wizard. You can as well highlight the vm, right click and click settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click storage settings and attach the ISO file as IDE controller.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"731\" height=\"561\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/attach_ubuntu21.04_iso.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8419\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>You might also want to attach more Network interfaces. Click on Network settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Feel free to configure any other setting to your preference, like adjusting the size of memory and number of CPU cores to assign to the VM etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install Ubuntu 21.04<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now start your Virtual machine to launch the installation.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"808\" height=\"580\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/install-ubuntu-21.04.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8421\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/install-ubuntu-21.04.png?v=1616735365 808w, https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/install-ubuntu-21.04-768x551.png?v=1616735365 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 808px) 100vw, 808px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>At this point, you got two options. You can either try Ubuntu 21.04 without installing or you can actually install it permanently on your disk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s install Ubuntu 21.04. Select your installation language and click Install Ubuntu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select your keyboard layout and click continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the Updates and Software selection section, you can choose what apps to install to start with.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"809\" height=\"536\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ubuntu.21.04-apps-install.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8422\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ubuntu.21.04-apps-install.png?v=1616735652 809w, https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ubuntu.21.04-apps-install-768x509.png?v=1616735652 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 809px) 100vw, 809px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>On the Installation type, you can choose to erase the disk and install Ubuntu. If you enabled automatic login, you wont be prompted for user password.
