Google has developed a remote desktop tool called Chrome Remote Desktop that allows users to remotely access and control another computer over the Internet through a&nbsp;protocol called Chromoting on Google Chrome browsers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Installing Chrome Remote Desktop on Ubuntu 18.04<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To setup Ubuntu 18.04 to be accessed via Chrome Remote Desktop, follow the following steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sign in to your Google account<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you can proceed, fire up your Chrome browser and navigate to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Google login page (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/accounts.google.com\/servicelogin\" target=\"_blank\">Google login page<\/a> and sign in to your Google Account using your gmail account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install Chrome Remote Desktop Extension<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you are logged in to your Google account, proceed to install the Chrome Remote Desktop Extension on your Chrome browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To install the extension, navigate to <a aria-label=\"Chrome Remote Desktop extension page (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/chrome-remote-desktop\/inomeogfingihgjfjlpeplalcfajhgai\" target=\"_blank\">Chrome Remote Desktop extension page<\/a> and click <strong>add to Chrome<\/strong>. When clicked, a confirmation Window pops up. Click <strong>Add Extension<\/strong> to install the Chrome Remote Desktop extension on your browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/pluralsight.pxf.io\/c\/2935865\/480964\/7490\" target=\"_top\" id=\"480964\" rel=\"noopener\"><style> div {text-align: center;}<\/style>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/a.impactradius-go.com\/display-ad\/7490-480964\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" title=\"\"><\/div><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"0\" width=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/pluralsight.pxf.io\/i\/2935865\/480964\/7490\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install Chrome Remote Desktop Package<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you add the Chrome Remote Desktop extension, download chrome remote desktop package which provides the required host components and install it as follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><code>wget https:\/\/dl.google.com\/linux\/direct\/chrome-remote-desktop_current_amd64.deb<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><code>apt install .\/chrome-remote-desktop_current_amd64.deb<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Chrome remote desktop installs as a service, <strong>chrome-remote-desktop.service<\/strong> and is set to run upon installation. This is the authentication PIN that the remote user will need to use to access your remote desktop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1023\" height=\"417\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/set-remote-connection-pin.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3870\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/set-remote-connection-pin.png 1023w, https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/set-remote-connection-pin-768x313.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1023px) 100vw, 1023px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click <strong>Start<\/strong> to start Chrome remote desktop daemon. If you had logged in as non root user, you are prompted to authenticate in order to run chrome-remote-desktop service as superuser. At the sametime, the same user is added to  <strong>chrome-remote-desktop<\/strong> group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the setup is done, your remote desktop goes online and you can now be able to access it remotely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1233\" height=\"482\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/remote-desktop-online.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3878\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/remote-desktop-online.png 1233w, https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/remote-desktop-online-768x300.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1233px) 100vw, 1233px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessing Ubuntu 18.04 through Chrome Remote Desktop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that the Chrome remote desktop is setup on your Ubuntu 18.04, if you need to access it remotely, you have to sign in to Google account using the same email that is used to on the remote system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you sign in to your Google account, install the Chrome Remote Desktop extension and the Chrome Remote desktop Debian package as described above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once that is done, open the Chrome Remote desktop extension from the same Google account as on the remote system and you should be able to see your remote system online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1181\" height=\"555\" src=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/access-remote-desktop.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3879\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/access-remote-desktop.png 1181w, https:\/\/kifarunix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/access-remote-desktop-768x361.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1181px) 100vw, 1181px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the name of the remote system to start a remote session.
