If you have other users who login to the same system via their own accounts, then they will still see the default background images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"change-ubuntu-22-04-desktop-background-via-command-line\">Change Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop Background via Command Line<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also change Ubuntu 22.04 desktop background image via the command line. Default Ubuntu 22.04 background images are stored under <strong><code>\/usr\/share\/backgrounds<\/code><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The default Ubuntu 22.04 desktop background is named as <strong><code>warty-final-ubuntu.png<\/code><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, if you have a custom image\/picture you want to use as background, you can place it under <strong><code>\/usr\/share\/backgrounds<\/code><\/strong> directory and name it as <strong><code>warty-final-ubuntu.png<\/code><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, I have an image named as <strong>wallpaper.jpg<\/strong> stored under my Pictures directory. To use this image as the default first backup the default image;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>sudo cp \/usr\/share\/backgrounds\/warty-final-ubuntu.png{,.bak}<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, rename your custom image as warty-final-ubuntu.png;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>sudo cp ~\/Pictures\/wallpaper.jpg \/usr\/share\/backgrounds\/warty-final-ubuntu.png<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>This will change the desktop background system wide for all users!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"change-login-screen-background-in-ubuntu-22-04\">Change Login Screen Background in Ubuntu 22.04<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, hats off to the one <em>PRATAP-KUMAR<\/em> for coming up with a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/PRATAP-KUMAR\/ubuntu-gdm-set-background\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">script<\/a> that does the heavy lifting in changing the login screen on an Ubuntu systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The script provides four options<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>background with image<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>background with color<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>background with gradient horizontal ( requires two valid hex color inputs)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>background with gradient vertical ( requires two valid hex color inputs)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>We will only see how to change login screen background using an image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To use Pratap Kumar script to change login screen background on Ubuntu 22.04;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Install required library;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>sudo apt install libglib2.0-dev-bin<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Download the script;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>wget https:\/\/raw.githubusercontent.com\/PRATAP-KUMAR\/ubuntu-gdm-set-background\/main\/ubuntu-gdm-set-background<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make the script executable;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>chmod +x ubuntu-gdm-set-background<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set the login screen background on Ubuntu 22.04;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>.\/ubuntu-gdm-set-background --image <strong>&lt;path-to-image&gt;<\/strong><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Replace <strong>&lt;path-to-image&gt;<\/strong> with the correct path to the image that you want to use as the login screen background on Ubuntu 22.04;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>sudo .\/ubuntu-gdm-set-background --image \/home\/koromicha\/Pictures\/i-love-linux.jpg<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Sample command output;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"scroll-sz\"><code>\ud83d\ude15 Seems 'background change is successful'\nChanges will be effective after a Reboot (CTRL+ALT+F1 may show the changes immediately)\nIf something went wrong, log on to tty and run the below command\n$ sudo update-alternatives --quiet --set gdm-theme.gresource \/usr\/share\/gnome-shell\/theme\/Yaru\/gnome-shell-theme.gresource\n<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reboot the system;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>sudo systemctl reboot -i<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>And there you go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img
